Yalla Print: Arabic Postcards | Impresión Yalla: Postales Árabes

Shadi Ayoub grew up in Beirut, Lebanon, where he gained a deep appreciation for the traditional craft of printing from his father and long-established printing press operators. Following his father’s passing in 2013, he took on the legacy of the family print shop and honed his skills, developing innovative techniques to overcome technical challenges in a resource-constrained environment.

In 2019, Ayoub left Beirut and moved to Cleveland where he started setting up the letterpress studio one press at a time. He founded The 961 Collective with the vision of doing what he loves and sharing the beautiful world of printmaking with others in the community.

"Yalla” is a term in Arabic that means let’s go / come on / let’s do this and is meant to be used in an exciting tone to encourage someone to do something. In celebration of Arab American Heritage Month, Shadi tells his story and introduces the traditional craft of letterpress. Each participant has the exciting opportunity to print postcards with messages of positivity using LEGO®.

Shadi Ayoub creció en Beirut, Líbano, donde aprendió de su padre y de los operadores de imprentas establecido desde hace mucho tiempo un profundo aprecio por el oficio tradicional de la imprenta. Tras el fallecimiento de su padre en 2013, asumió el legado de la imprenta familiar y perfeccionó sus habilidades, desarrollando técnicas innovadoras para superar los desafíos técnicos en un entorno con recursos limitados.

En 2019, Ayoub dejó Beirut y se mudó a Cleveland, donde comenzó a establecer el estudio de tipografía una imprenta a la vez. Fundó The 961 Collective con la visión de hacer lo que ama y compartir el hermoso mundo de grabado con otros en la comunidad.
